Preparing for Autumn/Fall: Outerwear Edition

Following on from my previous post, I'll be going over some key clothing items for your autumn/fall wardrobe, looking at different stores, styles, and prices, as well as providing links to where you can purchase the items shown.

First, here are a few tips:

Autumnal Colours
When it comes to fashion and decor, it's always good to take inspiration from nature. In the autumn, nature is changing and has a very specific colour-scheme. The grass is darker and more dull, the sky is more grey, and the trees are boasting a variety of brown, orange, red and green leaves.

If you're not confident in your colour choices, I'd stick to these colours and keep them quite muted. Bright colours can look great for autumn but can be too contrasting to the environment and be off-putting to the eye.

Coats & Jackets.
Autumn is a great time to crack out your favourite coats. As the weather changes between warm and cold, you'll have a lot of varied options to choose from.

Bomber Jackets are great for when the day is still pretty warm but with a slight breeze. Most are quite thin fabrics, but others are thicker that you could easily transition into the evening.

Kimonos are thin, but great for layering or shielding you from the chill if you're going somewhere special.

Blazers are just a fancy coat! They can instantly add sophistication to any outfit and keep you reasonably warm when the autumn breeze starts rolling in.

Faux Fur Coats are a very stylish and classy item that'll certainly keep you warm and give a luxurious feel to your outfit.

Leather Jackets are a great piece to transition from day to night. They're effortlessly stylish and although some can be a bit thick and bulky, it's also easy to find ones that are a thinner material. They'll be great during the day if there's a chill/easy to carry if it warms up a bit, then they're perfect to wear at night when it's a lot cooler.

Raincoats are actually becoming a popular item to wear. They're often a thin material and lightweight but easy to wrap up in and usually give extra room for layers underneath. The one I bought at a festival is one of my favourite coats at the moment since it keeps me warm, has a hood, and can easily be tied around my waist as it isn't bulky at all.

Denim Jackets are always a fashion staple. They're great for casual looks and add a different texture and more interest to your outfit.

Macs are a classic and stylish piece that look great with pretty much every outfit. They're great to wear in cooler and more drizzly weather as well, and although they have buttons, they usually also have a tie round the waist that can give your body more definition when you're wearing more layers.

Parkas are a simple and easy to wear piece that are a thick material, perfect for keeping you warm.

Long Coats are very in-style right now and you can find them at basically any store, either IRL or online. They come in varying fabrics and are in usually very sophisticated cuts and styles.

Duster Coats are very light but very long, so are a great lightweight option to shield you from the cold. They are also very stylish and sleek, so can be worn both day and night.

Cardigans & Jumpers

Cardigans are a great layering piece as you can usually wear them open or closed up with buttons. They can be worn casually or in a more formal setting and come in varying fabrics and styles.

Jumpers/Sweaters are always an effortless way to style your outfit. You can use them as a layering piece or wear them without a jacket if the weather is decent. Unlike a cardigan, you don't need to worry about whether your top underneath it matches or not, so they're an easy item to throw on in a rush.

Hoodies are a kind of happy medium between cardigans and jumpers, but are definitely a casual piece. They come either with a zip so it can be opened, or closed like a jumper. They also have hoods and large pockets.
